Installations
This installation of mine, composed of a triptych, was part of an international collective exhibition curated by the art critic Silvia Pegoraro in the medieval city of Viterbo.
I chose the ancient city washhouse inspired by the incessant flow of water. Therefore water as a metaphor for the inexorable flow of time, water as a primary element for the survival of the human species and finally water as crystalline purity.
Just as pure was the soul of the three newborns returned to nature described in the triptych. Their shape, still embryonic and barely sketched on the table, is dissolved into natural elements such as leaves, for example, or dry branches with still some insects inside.
Suspended in the air, the three little human beings have only the initials of their names and the dates of their birth and death on their side.
LA VIA DEI CANTI, SOUND ART INSTALLATION BY ZERYNTHIA
After more than 20 years from the Uccelli/Birds Symposium between artists, composers, art historians, ornithologists and ethologists curated by Carolyn Christov Bakargiev and Hans-Ulrich Obrist in the Selva di Paliano, bird park of Prince Antonello Ruffo of Calabria, Zerynthia in the BOSCO DI PALIANO presents the sound project la Via dei Canti: Uccelli / Birds.
Birdsong has always had a great fascination for the human species in all cultures. This is demonstrated by thousands of musical pieces, sounds and field recordings that evoke the language to which the entirely sound installation that Zerynthia proposes is dedicated by reworking a project created in 2013 for the Nuit Blanche in Paris under the artistic direction of Chiara Parisi and Julie Pellegrin.
Twenty-four songs created by sound artists, composers and visual artists of different generations and geographical contexts will be available for listening to visitors to the forest. A succession that passes from French pigeons to English crows, from Russian nightingales to Australian billbirds arriving at the sound of the birds of the Rome Zoo, interspersed with the songs of the birds of the forest.
The installation can be visited for free during every weekend from Saturday 29 August to Sunday 1 November inside the Paliano Woods, a centenary oak grove open to all from June 2020.
Zerynthia Association for Contemporary Art OdV has had its registered office in Paliano since 1992, where over the years it has regularly held international exhibitions and conferences in the field of contemporary art.
